Artist Talk & Reception: Friday, Aug 29, 7–9pm
Join Misunderstood Movie Host, artist, media-maker, and BWP’s Artist in Residence, Mister Lobo, for a talk and exhibition reception!
BWP’s Live Residency offers the opportunity for artists to create new work within the gallery during open hours. The residency’s goal is to create a space for artists to complete works that go beyond their past scale or scope, and to provide the public with a venue to interact with the artist, ask questions, and see the process of making. Each residency concludes in a solo exhibition that includes work created during their time in the space. In August 2025, we host Mister Lobo, an American artist, satirist, and comedic actor best known as the horror host of the nationally syndicated American television series Cinema Insomnia.
Mister Lobo is a three time award winning Horror Host including the The Horror Host Hall of Fame Award, The Forry Ackerman Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2022, he was inducted into the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards’ Monster Kid Hall of Fame. Mr. Lobo’s Cinema Insomnia—a late-night cult TV sensation for 24 years—is now broadcast on 40 public channels nationally and is available on ROKU channel OSI 74, Twitch, YouTube, and has 20+ episodes available on Alpha Video DVD.
Mister Lobo, whose stylistic references include Elvira, Monty Python, Captain Kangaroo, Mister Rogers, and Bob Wilkins, lords over slumber party movie fun with his patented blend of humor and satire with the philosophy “They’re Not Bad Movies—Just Misunderstood”. Expanding on the tradition of horror hosts like John Stanley, Vampira, and the Crypt Keeper, Cinema Insomnia finds Mister Lobo in scripted vignettes in between segments of a late-night movie, along with original characters of varied identities and species, retro and spoof commercials, and craft and snack segments.
He is also the creator of zines and comics, including Nuke Nova, and the infamous Sac Blows trading cards.
