A note of gratitude and delight…

On Saturday, March 16, 2013—in what was then called “A Simple Project Space”—we opened a show of five artists in a 10×12-foot artist studio on Treat Street. Since then, we have changed names (to ASC Projects and now Black & White Projects) and moved to a spacious 20×20-foot studio; we’ve presented 29 group and solo exhibitions, exhibited the work of 50+ artists, hosted seven residencies and two guest curators, and hosted dozens of talks and public events. We continue to experiment with different business models—to find one that is equitable, sustainable, and allows for the full creative freedom of the artists and the program—while being a welcoming space for humans to connect and experience creative space together.

On Friday, March 16—the five year anniversary of this work– we open our 30th exhibition: New Work: A Retrospective, a group exhibition showcasing a small selection of artists I’ve worked with over the years. This year will be full of play around “retrospective,” and as the program steps into the next five years, I am deeply committed to promoting content-driven, multi- and interdisciplinary work of artists from the Bay Area and beyond, to making art and conversation part of the community, and to sharing resources and knowledge with anyone I can.

I cannot truly express the gratitude I have for all of you and for all those who have supported this space. I am honored to be a part of a community of brilliant, loving, creative, and communicative people.

Thank you! And here’s to more great stuff to come!!!

♥️ Rhiannon
